Finding a home: Ian and Samantha's story

We recently caught up with Ian and Samantha who moved with their two sons into their new home in Shipston-on-Stour the start of 2026. Here's an insight into what they said.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about where you were living before moving?

"We've lived in Shipston-on-Stour for about ten years. We love living here, close to our families in the village.

"However, we were in a two-bed house that was cold, damp and very run-down. It was on a main road, which was busy with traffic, very noisy and not safe for the kids to play outside.

"Everyday life was pretty hard - worrying about health issues from the damp, not having enough space for us inside and not feeling safe outside either. It was definitely not a sanctuary for our family."

Q: What were you hoping for when you applied for your new home?

We wanted a fresh start where our family can grow together and be healthy.

"Somewhere the boys can have their own rooms to go to switch off and decorate their own way.

"We wanted quietness and peace. We have that now!"

Q: What's something you can do now that wasn't possible before?

"I can literally breathe better

"My chest doesn't feel tight. I'm not worrying about the effects on my family's health all the time anymore."

Q: What was the moment you felt like this was your home?

"As soon as we saw it we knew it was our forever home.

"Jacqui made the process so easy, relaxing and smooth. When she came to our old house to do the interview she wasn't judgmental of the condition it was in, which felt very reassuring."

Q: What do you love most about your new home?

"Not having to worry about the effects of the damp and mould

"We feel warm, dry and cosy. It makes day to day life easier.

"Having three bedrooms so our boys have a bedroom each now has helped massively. They are both autistic - one is a night owl and the other is an early riser. They are SO happy having their own space."

Q: Do you have any hopes or plans for the future now you feel more settled?

"We're so glad to know we will always have a home.

"We just want to enjoy seeing the children growing up healthy and happy."

Q: Is there anything the team did to help make moving in easier for you?

"Jacqui was amazing, she put is at ease straight away.

"We felt completely free from any judgement. She made the moving process feel seamless and calm."
