Work has officially started on 10 much-needed affordable homes in Claverdon, giving more local people the chance to stay in the village they call home.
To mark this milestone, Warwickshire Rural Housing Association (WRHA) was joined on site this week by the partners helping to make the new homes a reality.
Joining the celebration were Cllr George Cowcher, Deputy Leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Lisa Davies, Development and Policy Enabler at Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Ken Flood (Clerk) and Cllr Weaver from Claverdon Parish Council, Snowdon Homes, Orbit, and members of the WRHA Board and team.
Reaching this point has been a real team effort, supported by a £738,000 grant from Stratford-on-Avon District Council.
The scheme, which follows an earlier phase of three affordable homes completed in Claverdon in 2019, will provide four new homes for social rent and six for shared ownership, including houses and bungalows.
The new homes are being built in response to an identified local housing need, following a housing needs survey and consultation with the community in 2022. All 10 homes will be prioritised for people with a local connection to the village.
They have been designed to be energy efficient and better for the environment. They will have air source heat pumps, solar panels with battery storage, low-energy LED lighting and electric vehicle charging points, helping to keep energy use and bills down. New planting around the development will also provide more space for nature and wildlife.
The 10 new homes are expected to be completed in late 2027.
