How to avoid getting into arrears

If you live in a rented property, your rent and service charge (if applicable) is due each week. You are charged every Monday for the forthcoming week. If you want to pay your rent fortnightly or monthly, payment must be made in advance.

If you are a leaseholder, your rent and service charge (if applicable) is due on the first of each month. Payments are due in advance.

Please do not be afraid to approach us if you are having problems paying your rent. The longer you leave it the worse it will get.

What will happen if I fall into rent arrears?

We takes rent arrears very seriously and expects all tenants to pay their rent on time.

As a registered social landlord however our approach will be one of prevention not possession. We will take all reasonable and practical steps to keep residents in their homes. The steps are designed to prevent the escalation of rent arrears through prompt and early advice and assistance.

This will include:

  • Contacting the tenant as soon as reasonably possible if they fall into arrears to discuss the cause of the arrears.

  • Aiming to agree an affordable repayment plan based upon the income and expenditure of the tenant.

  • Assisting with the completion of Housing Benefit forms.
